Unit overview
Focusing on the 3GPP family of technologies, this unit provides a sequential comparison of systems from 2G to 4G – highlighting in turn the differences in terms of evolution, service support (including data rates), and architectures. The main features and capabilities are set out to ensure comparisons can be drawn.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
•Relate overall system acronyms (e.g. UMTS, LTE) to the relevant generational designation
•Discuss the capabilities of the different 3GPP generations of technology with confidence including data rates and service support
•Identify the key differences in terms of overall architectures between 2G, 3G and 4G systems
This unit is for those new to telecoms or for those requiring a better understanding of telecommunication technologies and networks.
