Unit overview
Mobile communications systems are a [the] preferred system for the majority of telecoms customers worldwide, and experienced phenomenal growth in the first 3 decades after launch. This unit looks at the basic principles of mobile as a primer to develop greater understanding. The background to mobile system development, radio usage and channels, and the cellular principle are all set out logically in order to build a basic foundation.
By the end of this course you will be able to:

•Chart the initial developments of mobile systems, highlighting key milestones, together with their approximate dates
•Use frequency-domain diagrams to illustrate how different frequencies and bands are allocated to different operators and different users
•Describe the overall nature cellular communication systems – setting out the way in which cells are used to provide radio coverage, and the advantage this brings compared to broadcast systems
This unit is for those new to telecoms or for those requiring a better understanding of telecommunication technologies and networks.
