Unit overview
The Internet provides a range of services and operations in order to make the whole thing usable for the many diverse users world-wide. The main principles are presented in this unit, including the overall architecture (both physical and protocol), security mechanisms, QoS techniques, and the main elements of information, access, coding and handling.
By the end of this course you will be able to:

•Develop a relatively complete list of features that are provided by the internet in support of all users
•Illustrate the major elements of the Internet physical architecture, as well as the major supporting protocols
•State the purpose and describe the basic operation of the following supporting features / techniques including VPNs, DNS, MPLS, IPSEC and HTTPS
This unit is for those new to telecoms or for those requiring a better understanding of telecommunication technologies and networks.
