A proficient electrical design is fundamental to ensuring that work on a new or alteration to an existing installation will be safe once the work is complete.

Designers need to understand the requirements of their client to ensure that:

  • The client needs can be met in accordance with statutory requirements; and
  • The most appropriate type of installation has been selected, including suitable protection methods and cables sizes.

A properly designed, constructed, installed, commissioned and maintained electrical installation will ensure that there is no risk of electric shock or burn injury if used correctly.

This unit will examine these concepts in more detail.
