Allan Burns is the IET’s technical lead on smart homes. He started out as a science teacher then transitioned to the renewables sector.In 2012, he could see the way technology was evolving and he upskilled to become a specialist in sustainable smart homes and places. He was one of the first in the industry to focus on the energy efficiency considerations in smart homes.
Allan runs two businesses which together cover the complete ecosystem of surveying, consultation, design and installation of smart technologies to create smart green places. An active and contributing member of the IET Built Environment Panel, since 2015 Allan has contributed to IET publications including The Code of Practice for Energy Storage, The Designer’s Guide to Energy Efficient Electrical Installations and a white paper Digital Twins for the Built Environment.
